APC Partners with Certified Trainers to Bring Readers RRP Training
Richmond, Va. – American Painting Contractor (APC) announces a new partnership with McNeal & White Contractors to bring local RRP Certification Training to painting contractors in January 2011.
As of April 2010, federal law requires contractors that perform renovation, repairs and painting jobs on homes or child occupied facilities built before 1978 must be certified and use lead-safe work practices. Contractors are now expected to be experts on these topics to continue doing their jobs. To comply, contractors must now certify and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. This rule will apply regardless of who owns the facility or who is paying for the work. Failure to follow the practices could result in hefty fines up to $32,500 per violation. American Painting Contractor will now be sponsoring various RRP Training sessions across the U.S. beginning on January 20, 2011 in Tampa, Fla.
“The EPA’s Lead RRP Rule has changed the way contractors bid and perform work. It is imperative all contractors working on pre1978 houses be certified under this new law. Without this certification contractors are risking underbidding jobs, working dangerously, and possible fines up to $37,000 dollars,” said Aaron Albert, Director of Operations for McNeal and White Contractors Inc. “Rather than looking at this as an inconvenience from additional regulation; the Lead RRP rule is actually going to result in the safety of workers and homeowners. It can also be used as a sales advantage for certified contractors competing against uncertified/unsafe contractors.”
"The RRP rule is critically important to the painting industry as well as the individual painting contractor,” said Andrew Dwyer, publisher of American Painting Contractor. “We're excited to help our readers gain this necessary training, because we take seriously our goal to be the #1 resource for contractors."
